Structural Triage Panel

The panel plays a crucial role in ensuring that Structural CPEng candidates are assessed against consistent, industry-endorsed criteria. The panel identifies CPEng reassessment candidates who provide strong assurance of ongoing competence, or identifies those who require a more detailed review of their current technical competence.

David Wood

CMEngNZ, CPEng

David has 30 years’ experience in structural engineering including the design of large multi-use developments in the Middle East and South East Asia, and seismic assessment of commercial building sand churches. He is a Technical Director in Beca’s Wellington office, focused mainly on seismic and high rise design. David was a USAR Task Force engineer for a number of years and a member of the NZSEE Management Committee from 2012-2015. He was involved in the last New Zealand Concrete Code amendment. David is a member of NZSEE and SESOC. His engineering qualification is BE (Hons). He has been a Practice Area Assessor for a couple of years and was first registered in 1998. He has been CPEng registered since 2013.

Bruce Galloway

Bruce is a Chartered Professional Engineer with 20 years’ experience delivering structural designs for the building and infrastructure sectors. His technical leadership role at Holmes is focussed on ensuring projects are well conceived and technically executed. Bruce has a passion for design-led solutions and is also involved in training and software development. He also has an interest in disaster response, being an engineer for Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) taskforce, and was heavily involved in the development of the MBIE guidelines and training programme for post-disaster building management. Bruce is a member of the Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESOC) and the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE). Bruce was first registered as CPEng in March 2007.

Bruce Tricker

Bruce is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (CMEngNZ), a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and a member of the Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESOC). He is a founding member of the Engineering General Practitioners group within Engineering New Zealand. He worked as a structural engineer on a wide range of projects in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and elsewhere before starting his own practice in 2003. He currently owns and manages BMT Structural Consulting Engineers. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering, Chartered Professional Engineer and International Professional Engineer. Bruce was first registered as CPEng on 3 November 2003

Gordon Hughes

FEngNZ, IntPE(NZ), CPEng

Gordon is a well-known and respected structural engineer in New Zealand and is currently Managing Director of G A Hughes & Associates Limited with offices in Whangaparāoa and Hamilton. Gordon now concentrates on structural engineering, while the Hamilton office carries out construction monitoring, simple geotechnical investigations, wastewater and stormwater, structural design and CAD drawings. Gordon was a member of the Competence Assessment Board for 6 years (2010–2016) and has been a Practice Area Assessor since 2004. He served on SESOC Management and Executive and inaugural EGP committees and is a member of CROSS-AUS panel as well as a life member of the Structural Engineering Society of New Zealand (SESOC). His qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Diploma of Management, Chartered Professional Engineer and International Professional Engineer. Gordon was first registered as CPEng on 10 December 2003.

Jitendra Bothara

Jitendra, a seismic engineer, is the Director of ResiPro International Engineering, a New Zealand based company. Originally from Nepal, in a career spanning three decades, he has been an engineering consultant to private building and portfolio owners, governments, and organisations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and other multinational organisations. He has advised and completed projects on earthquake risk reduction, preparedness, response, recovery, and reconstruction in 15 countries from the Asia Pacific to Europe. His qualifications include a Master of Engineering (Civil), Post Graduate Diploma in Aseismic Design & Building Construction, Institute of Earthquake Engineering & Engineering Seismology, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Chartered, Fellow – New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (FNZSEE), Fellow – Nepal Engineers’ Association (FNEA) and International Professional Engineer (IntPE NZ). He is also a life member – National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal, life member – Indian Society for Earthquake Engineering and a member – Structural Engineering Society New Zealand. Jitendra was first registered as CPEng on 29 May 2009.

Michael Robinson

Michael graduated from Auckland University in 1997 with a BE (Hons, Civil). He has been working as a structural engineer for over 25 years. Currently he is a Technical Director – Building Structures at Beca in Auckland and has worked on major projects in a variety of sectors in New Zealand, Singapore and Indonesia. Previously, he was Beca’s Country Manager in Indonesia while living in Jakarta for four years. Michael is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (CMEngNZ), a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and a member of the Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESOC). His qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons), Chartered Professional Engineer and International Professional Engineer. Michael was first registered as CPEng on 7 March 2012.

Oliver Lang

CMEngNZ, CPEng

Oliver is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (CMEngNZ), a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and a member of the Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESOC). Oliver is in the engineering management and structural fields, specialising in structural design, design management, seismic assessment and construction monitoring of low-rise building structures. His qualifications include Diplom-Ingenieur Germany, Chartered Professional Engineer and International Professional Engineer. Oliver was first registered as CPEng on 14 October 2008.

Vincent Hwang Ing Wong

CMEngNZ, CPEng

Vincent is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (CMEngNZ), a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and a member of the Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESOC). He is a member of one of the Engineering New Zealand operational boards and has been a Practice Area Assessor since 2012. Vincent’s previous professional experience includes being a member of the NZS 1170.5 Amendment 2 committee and post disaster responses during the Canterbury Earthquake Sequences 2010-2011. He has worked on various projects and currently has an interest in the building regulatory area, having provided input and advice to various Building Control Authorities (BCAs) around the country. Vincent currently works at the Christchurch City Council as one of the leads providing specialist structural engineering advice on regulatory compliance for building related areas. His qualifications include a Master of Engineering, a Master of Applied Science, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons), Chartered Professional Engineer and International Professional Engineer. Vincent was first registered as a CPEng on 8 December 2010.

Greg Davies

CPEng, IntPE(NZ), CMEngNZ

Greg is a structural engineer with almost 30 years of experience having graduated from Canterbury University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons, Civil).  He is currently the Director of The Engineering Collective Limited, a structural engineering consultancy that he started in 2020.  Prior to this Greg performed senior leadership roles managing structural teams, business units and consultancies.  His experience includes building structures across all sectors and structures for energy transmission and infrastructure across NZ, Fiji, Singapore, Myanmar, United Kingdon and Ireland.  More recent experience in façade support structures and innovative foundation systems has broadened his experience and ability to assess a wider range of applicants.  Greg is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (CMEngNZ), a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), and an International Professional Engineer (IntPE(NZ) and a member of the Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESOC), the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE) and the New Zealand Timber Design Society (NZTDS).
